Today we added “The Links”—a feature that Bill has wanted for several weeks. It’s simply a box on the front page that Bill or Jordan or Jeff can edit to share cool websites with readers of The Plateau Times. Give us a shout-out if you want to add links too.
I’m getting familiar with the kinks in the website, and realizing what needs to be addressed for future iterations. I won’t make any promises, but I would expect a more-polished Plateau Times website in September.
For the techies, the site is currently programmed in PHP from scratch, but the new site will likely be developed with a framework like Django (if I like Python) or RubyOnRails (if I prefer Ruby). At present I know neither language, but that should be a minor barrier.
So hang tight, and feel free to comment on features you’d like to see, or problems you’re having.

Minor updates for now.
The site will be coded in Django. I just started learning it, but it seems like the web designer’s ultimate tool. I’m excited to learn all about it. Unfortunately my general-purpose python book isn’t in yet so I can’t really code any advanced stuff. For now I’m reading about the Django templating features and I’m totally jazzed.
Programming is a lot of fun, people.
So I’ve finally started implementation in django, even though my knowledge of both django and Python is a bit immature at the moment. I can only do so much book-reading before I want to actually get some code out the door!
There is no ETA for the new site, but I promise it will be cleaner and friendlier for both readers and writers.
In case it wasn’t obvious by now, development of The Plateau Times has been halted. It was a great ride, and we hope you enjoyed it.
